I’m very pleased with my new piece on the Huffington Post –
Badfellas : How Rahm And My President Killed Health Reform. I think it’s a poweful, apt analogy and I even snuck in some dialog from the film.
Do you remember how Joe Pesci got killed inMartin Scorcese’s film Goodfellas? Pesci was told he was finally going to get what he’d always wanted and become a made man. He and his mother proudly picked out his best suit and got him ready for the big moment. He was picked up and brought to a house for the ceremony but just as he walks in the door, he sees a totally empty room. In an instant, he realizes what’s really going on. He barely gets out a sound before a gun is put to his temple. He’s shot dead and collapses in a heap on the floor.
That’s how I feel about the current state of health care reform.

I’ve got to give you credit for finally seeing Cesca for what he is.
Again today he and his followers are gushing over how thier new love is taking his time with a decision, and how “Presidential” it is.
This, after approving of a mad dash to shove a healthcare bill through before the August recess without even reading it, and discussions last week about how this is a “war” and needs to be done NOW. Scatterbrains.
Here’s something you may wish to share with Bob. I would, but he’s banned me from his site for not agreeing with him and his club of belittling followers:
“One of the strongest talking points of those who want a government-run medical care system is that we simply cannot afford the high and rising costs of medical care under the current system. First of all, what we can afford has absolutely nothing to do with the cost of producing anything. We will either pay those costs or not get the benefits. Moreover, if we cannot afford the quantity and quality of medical care that we want now, the government has no miraculous way of enabling us to afford it in the future. If you think the government can lower medical costs by eliminating ‘waste, fraud and abuse,’ as some Washington politicians claim, the logical question is: Why haven’t they done that already? Over the years, scandal after scandal has shown waste, fraud and abuse to be rampant in Medicare and Medicaid. Why would anyone imagine that a new government medical program will do what existing government medical programs have clearly failed to do? If we cannot afford to pay for doctors, hospitals and pharmaceutical drugs now, how can we afford to pay for doctors, hospitals and pharmaceutical drugs, in addition to a new federal bureaucracy to administer a government-run medical system?”
