Pray For Oakland, Part 3: Kreayshawn

meow3

Okay. Sorry. Kreayshawn claims to be repping Oakland. I’m not sure how Oakland feels about this but Gucci Gucci has over 34,000,000. Thirty-four. Million. Is this a story of a 1%er? Hard to say — I’m hoping Malcolm Harris will deconstruct it for me.

So, there’s no hope for Oakland quite possible, even with prayer. It’s kind of catchy, though.

Soundgarden : Live To Rise

I generally have negative feelings about videos that combine band footage with film footage but it’s nice to hear some new Soundgarden — and easy to like Soundgarden, to boot. Anytime Chris Cornell sings, I’m in favor of it. Plus, The Avengers looks like it’s going to kick ass. So, whatever.

Is Dave Rawlings Out of Tune?

Gillian Welch / Dave Rawlings : Time (the revelator)

One of my current favorite songs ever.

Red Hot Chili Peppers : Soul To Squeeze

Bon Iver : Skinny Love

Wonderful solo version.

Mid-1970s Journey Performs Feeling That Way / Anytime

Big Hollywood has a nice piece on a new documentary about Arnel Pineda, the Filipino lead singer of Journey.

But THIS. This right here. This is about the high point of Journey. Must I explain just a few of the reasons? Okay, I will!

Harmonies. Moustaches. Steve Perry dressed as a fancy waiter with long hair. Neil Geraldo’s afro, which is as big as the Cow Palace. Greg Rollie dressed as an undercover cop trying to pose as a swinger coke dealer who owns a boat. The way Feeling That Way kicks into gear and the way Perry sings “li-ight”. Ross dressed like he’s going to compete in Couples Figure Skating. Geraldo’s solos, which are both melodic and beefy. The collars of the dudes in the audience.

Guerilla Radio Mashup: I Make A Leftist Agitprop Music Video!

It’s easy to make leftist art! I took that video I posted the other day of protestors in Maryland, gave it a cool hip-hip hard rock soundtrack courtesy of Rage Against The Machine and voila! Took less than an hour.

Income Inequality Music: Rush’s The Trees From 1978

Starman

Ah, old school Rush. Geddy with a Rick, Alex with a Gibson and Neil with a huge amount of hair. President Obama’s “Hatchet, Axe & Saw For The American Dream” plan coming soon!
