I was diagnosed with diabetes about three years ago. One of the worst aspects for me is the foot pain – sometimes a tingle and sometimes searing, like I’m being stabbed with a bunch of needles in the toes. A few weeks ago, I saw a notice for a clinical trial about foot pain so I called, went down to Parkland Hospital and now I’m part of the trial.
I am getting surgery on my feet this morning. The procedure is sort of like carpal tunnel surgery but on the feet. The prep for surgery took up all day yesterday and will take up pretty much all day today, too, I reckon. It looks like it may significantly reduce my pain. That’s the goal anyway.
UPDATE: Thanks to everyone for all the good thoughts. It means a lot to me.
I went down to Parkland and was all ready for surgery – laying in bed with an IV drip and so on — when my surgeon decided to postpone the procedure because my blood sugar is high.
And it’s high for good reason; I haven’t been taking medicine for a while. My blood pressure, heart, chest and so on are all good. There are going to help me find a doctor in Dallas to deal with the blood sugar. In the past, I’ve responded well to medicine in the past so I expect my glucose level will get down to something acceptable pretty quickly.
So I expect to be ready for surgery in a few weeks and with my diabetes at a controlled level, too.Good all around.
