Underage #Weinergate: The Silence of The Press II.

June 10, 2024 · 18 comments

Call it The Silence of The Press, Part II.

Patterico has published a trilogy of stories - here, here and here - about the connection between Rep. Anthony Weiner and underage girls. To be sure, Patterico’s pieces broke some new ground but there’s a dirty little open secret – much of what Patterico published has been available to anyone who cared to look for the past two weeks since the story broke but has remained almost completely out of the press.

Patterico is to be commended for stepping into a dark section of #Weinergate where few have been brave enough to tread but of course, it’s not the first time the press has let down the public on #Weinergate.

The MSM was largely silent about Rep. Weiner’s immediately fishy story about being ‘hacked’ when it was first reported on Memorial Day weekend. CNN’s Howard Kurtz famously claimed it seemed ‘fake’ and for the most part, the press dutifully repeated the spin of Rep. Weiner and his cover-up cohorts until such time as Rep. Weiner resorting to calling a CNN producer a jackass. When he couldn’t even bunt the daintiest of softballs from sycophantic non-reporter Rachel Maddow, it started to look really really bad for Weiner…but even then, he maintained the illusion that his problems were caused by a right wing smear machine engineered by Andrew Breitbart. It took the slow release of photos to dislodge a semblance of truth from the Congressman.

Until the moment that Weiner shuffled in front of podium with a confession, crocodile tears and more lies (3 women in the last year? Pshaw!) the evidence against him as ALL ‘circumstantial’. Nothing proved conclusively, beyond a shadow of the doubt, in total certainty that Weiner had accidently tweeted his undies to a college student on the internet until the words came out of his mouth.

Now we know the Rep. Weiner (D – NY) is a liar. We know that he won’t admit things until he literally has no other option. And we know that he had a habit of talking to a number of women who admired him politically and then using that admiration to his own sexual advantage.

So why is the press now ignoring the ‘underage girl’ angle of the #Weinergate story that has had MORE proof behind it then the Tweet Seen ‘Round The World that went to Seattle co-ed Gennete Cordova?

This bears repeating, so I’ll repeat it.

There has been more clear, explicit, inexplicable and publicly available information about an inappropriate online relationship between Rep. Anthony Weiner and the girl Patterico calls “Ethel” then there has been about ANY other person – yet the press hasn’t even asked pertinent questions about. Most of this info was available during the ENTIRE story. Reporters like Tommy Christopher certainly know all about it, but failed to even mention it once in his reporting.

Supposedly, this was done in the name of ‘protecting’ the high school students involved. But how is this protecting them? We know by his admission that Rep. Weiner was a predator who went after liberal political groupies. These girls fit the pattern. More investigation is not only called for but seems mandatory…and this time, the press can’t just accept excuses from the girl’s parents on faith. We simply know too much about Weiner now to do that.

And – again, can’t be said enough – there’s no lack of evidence of something weird about Weiner following these girls. There’s clear evidence that he followed them. There’s clear evidence that these underage girls knew about each other. There’s clear evidence that they knew about other women that Weiner had online relationships with.

Hopefully, the press will get their act together on this story soon but even if they do, it’s only because they have something in common with Anthony Weiner: they don’t act until the blogosphere forces them to act.

The press and left-of-center bloggers are too busy complaining that Weiner is getting so much more attention than Jon Ensign or David Vitter or Mark Sanford (!?!) and it’s just not fair.

I’m pretty sure if we did a page count, we’d find that the MSM covered each of the other three stories far more than they have the Weiner story, and none of those articles involved supporting the idea that those guys were victims of a hoax.

I’m not going to rub it in here, Lee. But when you started making excuses for Weiner, even though you mostly calked him out, I cautioned you. I even wondered at one point, who had gotten ahold of you. Your explanation for that midstream change is what? Because now, you act as though it never even happened.

Yeah I kind of agree with Tutu this is what USAPatriot76 was talking about the whole time. This is specifically why he was pissed. Everyone was fixated on him instead of this huge news story that was out in public for the world to see if they just looked at it instead of him. Granted I don’t think there was corresponding sexting messages to compare them to, so there is that. Even at this point people are still giving this aspect of the story a wide berth. Kudos to Patterico for getting in the muck and handling it respectably.

I don’t think just because someone is a minor the story has to necessarily stop. It’s never worked like that in the make believe media they just leave out details such as their name. Just because a minor does something doesn’t preclude them from being part of a story.

I never once made an excuse for Weiner — not one time. I pointed out that nobody knows who Patriot is, and nobody still does. Until Weiner confessed and the Lisa Weiss transcript came out, some stuff Patterico found wouldn’t have made sense.

Further — I’ve known about this aspect of the story for two weeks and have been running it down the entire time.

And — there’s stuff about this that I STILL can’t say….I knew the photos were coming as well. The Patriot story wasn’t about the hack — it’s about their own strange behavior.

Question: Did Weiner know that any of these girls were underage?

Ace June 10, 2024 at 9:22 pm

Obviously, the worst stuff is being slowly leaked until this idiot resigns.

bujeeboo June 10, 2024 at 9:27 pm

The cops went to one of the girls’ house today. Are all you guys cops now as well as journalists? If he broke the law, they would go immediately to his house and frogmarch him out. I can understand why you don’t trust the media, but to presume you know how to collect evidence and arrest someone is a bit laughable. Sending on-line pornographic images to a minor is illegal. So the question is, if the cops find nothing are you going to claim “liberal bias”?

I haven’t (yet) seen any credible evidence that Weiner sent porn to any underage girls, nor have I seen any credible evidence that he knew that he was corresponding with any minors. This isn’t a defense of the guy. I think Wiener is a petty psychopath like so many other politicians. But this “underaged girl” accusation needs to be substantiated.

Nearly everybody is missing the REAL story behind Weinergate.

And no, it is NOT all about Weiner having tweeted his peter, perhaps to teens, as bad as that obviously is.

Could you at least warn people that the link you post is nothing but racist bullshit?

Bujeeboo and guest
You’re both right, all the evidence so far is circumstantial. Its a good thing there’s an investigation being conducted by law enforcement. Pretty soon we’ll know for sure if he’s just scum or if he’s criminal scum. Patterico seems to believe his sources.

To use leftist thinking circa a week ago, Weiner is a proven liar and a snake. Why should we believe anything he says now?

We’re just speculating using deductive reasoning until the truth comes out. I hope its not true.

Tutu June 11, 2024 at 12:21 am

OK, I might be wrong, but I followed this story from the beginning, and I followed you, Lee, specifically because I wanted someone who was somewhat on the left to give me perspective. And let me say, in the begining, you were great (I guess that means you agreed with me), but at one point, your perspective changed, it was obvious, yet you now say it never happened. Funny that. I could quote what you said here, but all who have been following this know what I mean. I’m just curious as to why you softened on Weiner in the middle of all this.

bujeeboo June 11, 2024 at 12:23 am

If the police find evidence of a crime, this will be over quickly.

The burden of proof is still on his accusers. If it’s proven that he sent porno to someone he knew was underage, fine. But I’m going to need more than suspicions voiced by a bunch of circus freaks, even if they are circus freaks who got lucky a week ago.

mark June 11, 2024 at 8:53 am

Bujeeboo,
I would love to believe that. However, Sam Adams (buggerer of boys bums) is still mayor of portland oregon despite having broken the law and had ACTUAL sexual contact with a minor.

Guest,
Of course the burden of proof is on him. However, a week ago, when weiner was accusing breitbart of hacking, the burden of proof seemed to rest on breitbart. “He lied about shirley sherrod! He’s lying about this!” To use that same logic, “he lied about sending pics because it might get him in trouble, so he’s probably lying about this since he’d end up in jail.”

And I still hope its not true. But if it is, he needs to go to jail.

Lee Stranahan June 11, 2024 at 12:01 pm

My perspective never changed — but the story evolved.

Just as Weiner’s behaivor created a lot of questions, so did Patriot’s. And they still aren’t resolved.
