Do you remember how Joe Pesci got killed inMartin Scorcese’s film Goodfellas? Pesci was told he was finally going to get what he’d always wanted and become a made man. He and his mother proudly picked out his best suit and got him ready for the big moment. He was picked up and brought to a house for the ceremony but just as he walks in the door, he sees a totally empty room. In an instant, he realizes what’s really going on. He barely gets out a sound before a gun is put to his temple. He’s shot dead and collapses in a heap on the floor.
That’s how I feel about the current state of health care reform.
After a couple of days of running out of ink, having to buy new CD cases after the one I’d bought vanished in our move and other small assorted disaster, we’ve started to ship copies of Disc 1 of raw interviews from Unschooling : The Movie!
Jack helped me label, box and ship the discs, all on his own. Unschooling in action.
“The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum - even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there’s free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate.” — Noam Chomsky
I had a great morning yesterday hanging out with Tim Wawrzyniec and the rest of the LIDAR Guys as they shot laser beams at the courthouse across the street –all in the name of visual effects. (That’s Tim in the foreground.)
LIDAR technology was used in recent films like G.I. Joe : The Rise Of Cobra and Tim and his crew did LIDAR scanning for the upcoming Denzel Washington flick The Book Of Eli. This is cuttin edge visual effects tech and of course, attendees at the Visual Effects Supervisor’s Boot Camp will be learning all about it. Working with it. Bringing home the data to use on their reels.
(The free part will be explained soon. Keep reading!)
But as I keep stressing, this class isn’t just about technique. It’s about your career. It’s about the people you meet and the opportunities that sharing a weekend with these professionals will mean for you and your career.
So to that end, I want to mention an amazing offer Tim has made to students attending the Boot Camp. Here comes the free part…
After the Boot Camp, let’s say you land a nice Visual Effects Supervisor gig. Or even get your own project greenlit and funded. Or work as a visual effects producer or artist. Whatever – you’ve got a gig. And because you’ve worked with LIDAR, you see a place in the movie, gam TV show to use the services of the LIDARY guys.
If you refer the LIDAR Guys in the first twelve months after the Boot Camp and they pick up work worth $20,000 or more they will refund your Boot Camp tuition. All of it. If the job if under $20k, they will give you 7% as a finder’s fee. That’s what I call a win-win.
The Boot Camp is in less than a month! It’s time to get real and get your career going! Contact me NOW at Lee@Stranahan.com if you want to sign up!
