Correcting Bill Schmalfeldt’s Defamatory Statements About My Resume

Yesterday on his Blog Talk Radio Show, Bill Schmalfeldt made the following public statements where he said that I had an eighth grade education, 9 months of college, that I was a ‘stringer’ for Breitbart News and that I spent most of my adult life flipping pizzas or shooting photos of my wife naked.

There statements were all intentionally misleading or blatantly false, as Mr. Schmalfeldt is well aware. These deliberate lies are part of his campaign of harassment against me and a wider pattern of harassment he has colluded in against a number of people. I have filed criminal charges against Bill Schmalfeldt because of his pattern of conduct designed to annoy, humiliate and destroy my professional reputation.

I’m going to correct the record here, in part to counter these deliberate and repeated lies by Bill Schmalfeldt and in part to simply prove that Mr. Schmalfeldt is a blatant liar whose conduct shows he is not acting as a journalist but as a provocateur.

Schmalfeldt describes me in this clip from the same show as ‘the dimmest member of their group’ because of my ‘eighth grade education.’

I’ve discussed my educational background a number of times publicly. I’ve had a lifelong interest and longtime career at the nexus of computers and video production and my background is indicative of that. It’s an unusual history but it doesn’t exactly indicate that I’m ‘dim’, as Bill Schmalfeldt states bluntly.

I dropped out of high school to go to Simon’s Rock Early Colllege.

Bard College at Simon’s Rock, more commonly known as Simon’s Rock (see below), is a residential four-year liberal arts college located in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, USA. Simon’s Rock is an “early college”, designed for students to enroll immediately after completing the tenth or eleventh grade, rather than after graduating from high school.

At 15 years old, I was one of the younger students at the time I attended. I was in my sophomore (10th grade) year at East Longmeadow High School when I left to go to Simon’s Rock, and technically I hadn’t finished ninth grade, because I’d skipped gym for a semester to play Dungeons and Dragons with my friends. As a freshman, I’d also been taking Senior year computer classes at East Longmeadow High School and I’d gotten in trouble for figuring out how to create admin accounts on the PDP-11 computers so I could play Zork and Star Trek.

I did a semester at Simon’s Rock and then I switched to Springfield Technical Community College at age 16 to study TV and Film. I had already been an intern for a TV show when I was 14 years old. I did a semester at STCC, then dropped out and studied philosophy for a few months. Then I went to a private high school in New York that was based on Ayn Rand’s philosophy of Objectivism. There, I was a teaching assistant of Dr. Andrew Bernstein in the college courses he taught in philosophy.

When I turned eighteen, I moved to California. I moved back and forth between California and Massachusetts a few times until around the time I was twenty-two. I did work in restaurants, including a few pizza places. I was often in management at these jobs.

I have not worked in the restaurant industry at all since I was twenty-three years old. I’ll turn forty-eight this year.

In the early 1990s, I’ve worked professionally in television, film and computers. My IMDB resume is here. I started a magazine in my early twenties about digital video production, a field in which I’m an acknowledged pioneer. My background in writing and editing extends back twenty-five years. Information about the magazine I started is here. I was the editor-in-cheif for another magazine called Keyframe, about computer animation.

Oh, wait. Let me save everyone some time : all of this and more-including my long career doing seminars-is posted on my publicly viewable LinkedIn resume, which also mentions my present employment at Breitbart News, where I am a salaried employee.

Bill Schmalfeldt obviously had access to my LinkedIn resume and chose to ignore it. When he told his audience that I had no credibility as a writer because my adult life was ‘flipping pizzas and shooting pictures of his wife with no clothes on’, he was deliberately making a false statement to a third party about me that had no legal purpose. This is what he has done, repeatedly, in audio and in print. He has continued to do it after criminal charges were filed against him. His purpose is to annoy and discredit me by making false statements about me, over and over.

What Bill Schmalfeldt does against me and others in his job as editor of the website Breitbart Unmasked is not journalism. It is lying and smearing and insulting with a willful and reckless disregard for the truth. This behavior on his part is why I have repeatedly said that Bill Schmalfeldt is not a journalist. Whatever his past resume, the work he is doing currently is not journalism. It is part of an orchestrated pattern of harassment.
